European Christmas

I was recently nominated for a Liebster Award by I’ve Been Bit. I’m very excited about the nomination and extend my thanks to Lindsay. A fellow traveler, Canadian and seemingly Restless Worker her blog is one worth checking out.

This award is giving by a fellow blogger to a newbie blogger to show appreciation for their hard work and talent. It’s also a little reminder to push us to keep going.

As a part of the nomination there are a few rules to follow ..

  1. Thank the blogger who nominated you and link back to his/her blog
  2. Answer questions they asked you
  3. Nominate other bloggers with less then 500 (or 1000 depending on the rules you read) followers
  4. Ask your nominees 11 questions
  5. Contact the bloggers and let them know about the nomination

Liebster Award Nomination

So without further adieu here are my answers to Lindsay’s question:

1. What or who inspires you to travel?

Curiosity inspires me to travel. I love discovering new cities, regions, or landscapes. It’s the curiosity of seeing what’s around the corner, what else I can discover or learn about the world that I never have before. Many claim travel is an addiction that can never be satisfied. I would definitely agree. It’s almost a bit of a game as well, trying to schedule vacation time around my full-time job. Sometimes I win, sometimes I loose but it’s fun trying to work out how I can take as many vacation days as possible with what I’m given.

2. What is your best travel experience so far?

It’s hard to pinpoint just one. For the sake of this post I’ll put two. The first would be my trip to California. I was travelling with my best friend, trying to get away from the drama at home and see a new side of the United States I never had before. It was also the first time I realized that sometimes the most unplanned trips can work out for the best. Plus I met my now fiance! The second best experience was my trip to Bali. In this trip I traveled solo for the first time and also experienced culture shock for the first time. It was a learning experience and one that expanded my mind and courage.

3. Which country/place did you like the most?

Again another hard question to pinpoint just one. Every place I travel to is uniquely different from the next and always has something that makes it worth travelling to. Croatia, Bali and Belgium are my favourite countries. In terms of cities I would say; Dubrovnik, Ghent, San Diego and London

4. Do you have any travel essentials that you absolutely have to travel with?

There are two things that I can’t travel without; my Iphone 5s and my Olympus OMD E-M10. Both obviously are there to snap the pictures you see all over my blog. Imagery is super important to me for a number of reasons. Mainly because they help jog memories years after travel. They are one of the best souvenirs to take home.

5. What is the first thing you do when you arrive in a new country?

The first thing I do when I arrive in a new country is drop my luggage off at whatever hotel or accommodation I’m staying at, grab my camera and get outside to start exploring. Typically in the first day I don’t have any sort of itinerary, I just want to get out and wander to try and get to know the city that I’ve just arrived at.

6. Who is your best travel buddy?

I’m very lucky in that I have two “best travel buddies”. The first is my Fiance and the second is my best friend. Because my best friend now lives in Australia traveling together has been somewhat difficult but I’m very lucky to have a partner in crime who loves to travel as much as I do

7. Where would you go if money wasn’t the issue?

Everywhere! Seriously if money wasn’t the issue I would travel around, station myself in a different country or state, blog and explore the regions around me.

8. Is there anything you don’t like about traveling?

Flying. Yes, I know ironic this is but I am absolutely, positively beyond terrified of flying. Any bit of turbulence, strange noise or slight stress of a flight attendant and I get convinced we are going down or going to crash. I’m not sure where this fear steams from, I never used to be this way when I was younger. Likely it’s the insane amount of news items focused on plane crashes, especially in recent years.

9. How did you choose a name for your blog?

It took me a while, playing around with different names. I’m a millennial. By nature millennials are often classified as restless. We are restless in our jobs, in our social life, often in our love lives – it’s who we are. I’m always wondering / researching / planning my next vacation, I’m restless. Despite being restless I still love to work. I like the security of a regular paycheque, having my own bed to crawl into at night, visiting my parents when I want to, having my amazing friends around me at all times. Above all, I love what I do. So for right now, and the near future I’m satisfied in taking my vacation days as they come and working my digital marketing 9-5er to help fund my adventures.

10. What part of blogging do you like the most?

Seeing the comments I receive and knowing that people are actually reading what I’m writing. I’ve always been creative and have always been a writer, blogging gives me the platform to get my voice out there.

11. What part of blogging you don’t like?

That it never seems like enough. I’m always looking to increase my audience, increase my social media followers, produce more blog posts, make my blog look better and more user friendly, etc. It’s not necessarily a bad thing but it can definitely be exhausting!
