This June monthly income report was a bit of a weird one and by weird I mean crazy busy. Back in May during our Iceland road trip our landlord so kindly emailed us telling us we had 45 days to be out of the apartment because she was selling (yes this is illegal in Ontario).

Because of that, we thought we would look into buying a house. However, due to some restrictions with Ben’s Visa, we would have had to put down more of a deposit than we were comfortable doing. Which meant we very quickly had to switch gears to finding a rental.

On top of all of this I also got a new job. Having all of this happen in the span of about 2 or 3 weeks was enough to send me over the edge. I was just about getting enough blog posts out to keep my traffic up. Because of that I didn’t have much time to worry about making more money through this blog.

Despite that though, I’m still surprised with how much I actually made in this June monthly income report. A lot of that can be contributed to the client Copypress works with wanting to amp up for more posts.

There are a couple of future goals I still have for my blog to help bring it to the next level. Some may take longer than others, but overall I believe the will only help me make this blog better:

  • Continue to increase affiliate links placed throughout the site
  • Look at alternative advertising streams
  • Increase my outreach to work with companies
  • Create a mediakit
  • Invest in a social media scheduler
  • Have more guests post on the blog and write more guest posts for other blogs
  • Create an actual email marketing list and expand on this to drive return traffic

For any of you who follow these posts, you know that most of these goals are repeats month over month. I find it so hard to get some of this done sometimes while just doing regular maintenance. I blame my crazy schedule. It’s hard enough to keep up with blog posting and being active on social media while holding down a full-time job, a social life and freelance work as if I wasn’t busy enough!

My Biggest Takeaway in June

I think my biggest lesson from this June monthly income report, is to working on creating a content calendar and a bank of posts that I can use in the event that life gets too busy. While my traffic did go up and my monthly income wasn’t too far behind last months’ I really stretched myself thin a number of times trying to get everything done. My social media also fell behind this month because I didn’t have time to schedule or pay attention to much other than maintenance posts.

For the month of July I will definitely try to rectify this. I’ll even try to follow my own rules and have a set day where I spend a number of set hours a week blogging to make sure I accomplish everything I set out to.

Top 5 Posts For June

  • Monthly Income Report For May: Surprisingly this was my top performing post that I published in June. I believe this is the first time this has happened which I find rather interesting!
  • How to see Iceland in 10 days: This post does not surprise me as ranking high in June. Iceland is a very hot topic right now. I feel like everyone and their mom are making their way over to this small European country. Which honestly, I whole heartedly support, it’s by far one of my favourite countries.
  • 8 Tips for Driving in Iceland: Again my comments above work here as well. Driving around the entire country was amazing and I would do it again in a heartbeat. There were however a number of things I wish I had have known before my trip which is why I wrote this post.
  • Top Airbnb Stays Around the World: I actually had fun writing this post. While it took me forever to aggregate the content and photos, I love the list.
  • 5 Must See Chicago Attractions: I’m actually surprised this post performed as well as it did. This was a post that had sponsored links so I guess I did a decent job with my content marketing skills here ;).
