My Monthly Income Report for May again saw a slight increase in the amount of money I made. At this point, every little bit helps! $12 may not seem like a large amount in terms of monthly increase to many people but for me that’s a weeks worth of coffee. Um hello, to any coffee addict you know how important those dollars are.
Looking back I’m actually surprised I made even that much on the blog this past month. I was in Iceland for a 10 day road trip and I promised myself I would not worry about doing any work while I was there. It was a vacation from my full-time job AND blog. I deserved it. We will see if those 10 days actually show in the month of June.
There are a couple of future goals I still have for my blog to help bring it to the next level. Some may take longer than others, but overall I believe the will only help me make this blog better:
- Continue to increase affiliate links placed throughout the site
- Look at alternative advertising streams
- Increase my outreach to work with companies
- Create a mediakit
- Invest in a social media scheduler
- Have more guests post on the blog and write more guest posts for other blogs
For any of you who follow these posts, you know that most of these goals are repeats from last month. Clearly I’m not very good at following through. I blame my crazy schedule. It’s hard enough to keep up with blog posting and being active on social media while holding down a full-time job, a social life and now apparently some part-time courses as if I wasn’t busy enough!
All of the money that I’ve made on this blog is converted to USD*
Total: $207.87 (+$12.64)
All expenses are priced out in USD*
This month I didn’t have any blogging expenses. While I do plan on putting some more money in the blog in the upcoming months, this month was a bit of a null.
Sponsored posts are when a company pays you to post on your blog. These can either be written by you or the actual company. With Copypress I write my own posts which means I have the freedom to write in my own style. Sponsored posts particularly gear towards SEO and backlinking to help website rank higher with DA (Domain Authority) and Google Rankings. I’m still learning how all of this works. I only commit to writing sponsored posts if I think it makes sense to my audience. I have turned down requests in the past.
Affiliate marketing is when you refer users to a specific product or service and get paid for it. You earn commission for helping to sell a product. As you can see I’m clearly not very good at this as of yet and really need to start making better use of referring to products but I’m learning. The other problem is traffic. You don’t generally get great results if you don’t have the right amount of traffic which I’m realizing. My traffic is still on the smaller scale of what I’d like it to be. I’m constantly working to build that up but until I do, I won’t be making any kind of big money from Affiliate Marketing.
Google AdSense was the easiest program in terms of advertising to sign up to. All it took was a Google account, downloading a plug in and deciding where you want the ads placed on your page. However, I’ve never really made a lot of money this way (again this pertains to blog traffic). The other problem with Google AdSense is that you don’t get paid out until you have hit $100 in advertising payments. I’ve been doing this for several months now and only make little bits here and there so we will see how long it takes me to get to $100. This is also a reason why I’m looking into alternative options. I’ve read some other blog posts where it is much easier to make money.
All in all I think I am doing okay for the time being, money has started flowing in and my traffic is continuously building.
What are the ways you make money blogging? I’m always looking for advice and new tips!
