Giant's causeway

One of the coolest places I’ve ever been is Giant’s Causeway. Located on one of the most northern points of Northern Ireland rests this natural phenomenon. While it’s a long day trip to do from Dublin, it is possible. Although it’s much more doable if you make the trip from Belfast.

The entire area is made up of over 40,000 basalt columns that look like organ pipes coming out of the ground. One of the coolest parts is that you are free to walk all over the area as you please.

One thing I wish I knew before venturing over is that you can enter Giant’s Causeway for free. We made the mistake of parking in the visitors center parking lot where they charge you per person (such a rip off). They’ll give you a headset as well that you can use for your very own walking tour but if I’m being honest, it’s not worth the money. You could probably Google everything that they are going to tell you anyways.

To get to Giant’s Causeway for free, there’s a parking lot located a little way down the hill. We actually passed by it on our way in and considered parking there before stupidly moved on to the tourist parking lot. It’s a little bit longer of a walk from the free parking lot but worth it if you’re looking to save money!

If the climb down to Giant’s Causeway is too much there is a shuttle bus that costs 1 Euro that you can take back to the top. Although I will say, the walk is stunning so if you can handle it, I would definitely recommend!

We visited in the middle of the summer on a Sunday and the space wasn’t that busy. In fact, I was surprised with how few people were there compared to some other tourist attractions I’ve visited. Plus, the weather in Northern Ireland isn’t exactly tropical so if you’re going to be visiting I would recommend it’s in the summer!
