Colmar France

I don’t think there could ever be enough photos of Colmar shared. This little town is by far one of the cutest I’ve ever been to. In fact, I haven’t stopped talking about this fairytale town since visiting.

While Colmar is often compared to its sister city, Strasbourg, I found I enjoyed Colmar so much more. Not only was Colmar smaller, the crowds were thinner and it felt more relaxed overall.

Situated in the Alsace region of France, you are bound to find excellent wine in the small town! However, Colmar is known best for being the inspiration behind the Beauty and the Beast film. As you walk through it’s not hard to see the comparisons. I swear I expected someone to pop their head out any second and start singing the soundtrack. You definitely can’t miss Fontaine Schwendi, you can really pretend like you’re Belle here.

The Old Town:

As one of the smaller towns in France, you can easily see everything you need to in a day. Wandering around the old town is my highest recommendation. The town is completely walkable and you’d be surprised how much you can see in such a short amount of time.

Whether photography is your thing or not, I can guarantee you’ll find it hard not to be snapping pictures at every corner. The buildings are medieval looking with so many pops of colour it’s incredible. We loved just sitting on small patios watching the people going by and admiring the architecture.

Canals:

One of the best things to do during your trip to Colmar is to take a boat ride along Little Venice. For only 6 Euros you can take a 30-minute ride all through the main spots in Colmar. The only difference is you’ll be seeing it from the water! I would recommend doing this after walking around a little bit. It will really give you a cooler perspective for your photos of Colmar.

We had a great tour guide as we paddled along the canals. Speaking in 3 different languages, we were informed of some historical spots or information behind certain buildings. I always love doing tours when I’m away because I find it one of the best ways to really immerse yourself in the city you’re visiting.

Where to stay:

Because Colmar is a smaller town, it doesn’t have the same amount of options somewhere like Paris would but it definitely has some pretty beautiful hotels. As a lover of boutique hotels, I really like to find unique options when I travel. However, they also need to be comfortable!

When looking for your next stay in Colmar, definitely make sure to do your research. We stayed at Hotel Quatorze and loved it. Looking for other places to stay? Check out Booking.com!
