When I started this blog just over a year ago, I never imagined that I could make money from doing something I loved. Of course that was the dream at the end of the day, even if it was just enough money to cover my expenses of running this blog. That would have been good enough for me. This past year I have worked very hard (in my free time – which seems like an odd commodity these days) to get my blog to where it is today and start monetizing it.
As a blogger I spend many hours trolling over other blogger websites for many reasons; inspiration, research, entertainment and admiration. Let’s be honest with ourselves here, every bloggers goal / dream is to be able to blog full-time and make a living from it. I’m no different. Blogging full-time does not happen over night if it ever happens at all.
I wouldn’t have been able to start monetizing my blog if it weren’t for other bloggers sharing their tips and secrets. What I’ve come to realize is that blogging is a community. Most bloggers are more than happy to lend a hand or answer questions. In fact, some even go above and beyond and write post after post of helpful information.
I’ve been following Travel Blog Breakthrough and Just a Girl and Her Blog for quite some time and reading their monthly income reports. Not only have they given me the confidence to start monetizing my own blog but they also give great ideas / platforms in order to do so. There are so many great resources and bloggers out there all you have to do is look.
I don’t pretend to be a rockstar blogger – I still can’t believe I even have people coming here most days! But my hope is that someone somewhere reads this and gets inspiration to either start their own blog or take it to the next level to start monetizing.

The money I made from Copyblogger and additional sponsored posts are both from sponsored posts. Sponsored posts are when a company pays you to post on your blog. These can either be written by you or the actual company. With Copyblogger I write my own posts which means I have the freedom to write in my own style. Sponsored posts particularly gear towards SEO and backlinking to help website rank higher with DA (Domain Authority) and Google Rankings. I’m still learning how all of this works.
Affiliate marketing is when you refer users to a specific product or service and get paid for it. You earn commission for helping to sell a product. As you can see I’m clearly not very good at this as of yet and really need to start making better use of referring to products but I’m learning. The other problem is traffic. You don’t generally get great results if you don’t have the right amount of traffic which I’m realizing. My traffic is still on the smaller scale of what I’d like it to be. I’m constantly working to build that up but until I do, I won’t be making any kind of big money from Affiliate Marketing.
Google AdSense was the easiest program in terms of advertising to sign up to. All it took was a Google account, downloading a plug in and deciding where you want the ads placed on your page. However, I’ve never really made a lot of money this way (again this pertains to blog traffic). This month was particularly bad however because I was blocked out of my account due to not receiving a PIN code. I’m hoping I will start to make more money off this as the months go on but I am also considering trying a new platform.
All in all I think I am doing okay for the time being, money has started flowing in and my traffic is continuously building.
What are the ways you make money blogging? I’m always looking for advice and new tips!
