Spring clean

Spring is the time for renewal, and that includes your living space! While some people spend springtime tending to their gardens or personal goals, others focus on the state of their homes. If redecorating your home is an area of focus for you, perhaps you don’t know where to start. Given we are going through yet another home renovation, there are lots of ways we are refreshing our space for spring:

Rearrange furniture

A fun and easy way to create newness in your living space is to rearrange your furniture and household items. Try putting the couch against the opposite wall, orient your rug in the other direction, and switch the end tables around. Create a gallery of photos around your picture on canvas for a cosmetic change to the wall.

A little moving around can do a world of good for a spring change. As you rearrange your furniture, take time to declutter your space and remove anything you no longer feel attached to. Perhaps there are baskets, magazines, or even extra dining chairs you cannot use. Donate your unwanted items and create more space for yourself in your home.

We’ve been doing this alot over the past couple of weeks as we get closer and closer to making our new home truly ours. It’s amazing how a simple movement of furniture can really make a difference.

Deep clean your space

Spring is the season for fresh starts, and spring cleaning is a big part! In addition to rearranging your furniture, have your home deep cleaned, either as a DIY project or by hiring a crew you trust to come in and clean your home from top to bottom.

Give your home the freshness it needs with a home essential like deep cleaning. You might want to rent a carpet cleaner to give your carpets the clean they likely need. Don’t forget to include dusting the baseboards, windows, mantle, and other surfaces that aren’t typically tended to each day. You’ll find that your space feels more breathable and spacious after a deep cleaning like this.

Add colour

Brighten up your space by throwing in pops of color that are festive to the Spring season. Add in pastel tones like yellows, light blue, lavender, and sage green to maximize the colors in your space.

Adding accent pieces with throw blankets or pillows are easy ways to incorporate more color and bring your space to life.

If you want a more drastic change, consider changing your window treatments, substituting neutrals for shades of green that go along with the nature-loving themes of this season. Most of all, be creative and have fun coordinating your space with more color.

Change the lighting

With the weather shaping up, you’ll want to create lighting in your home that matches the feel of the season. Say goodbye to cold blue tones, dark lighting, and greyscale light fixtures.

With winter on its way out the door, swap out the drab lighting arrangements for warmer tones like yellow-gold lighting to feel the sense of Spring inside and outside your home. You might consider adding more lamps or overhead lighting to create more lightness in your home. People tend to neglect the need for lighting during the winter as it is more common to adjust to the cold, darker days. With spring in the air, add in light.

Transforming your space so that it is ready for spring is all about incorporating color and creating interior elements that match the lightness of the spring season. Play with redecorating and reorganizing to see what spring-like arrangements you come up with! Get rid of the old that no longer serves you and have fun inviting more color and airiness into your space.
